Bee Sew Modern - June

June was the month of paper piecing for Bee Sew Modern! I'm not sure I would have the patience to do an entire quilt made from paper pieced blocks but I had a lot of fun stitching these up!

For those that are not familiar with the term paper piecing, this is a style of sewing to a foundation paper in order to achieve perfect points and very accurate piecing. I always think I am doing something wrong when paper piecing because it doesn't look like much until all of the pieces are trimmed and joined together. Here is a shot of the first block during piecing...

And here is the finished product! We were each asked to make a paper pieced star block using any pattern or tutorial. I used this tutorial for a block called Refractatorium. The "queen bee" asked for a rainbow of colors with a black background. I think this block hit the nail on the head!

My second block for June was this wheel block. The pattern was designed by a fellow bee member and came with amazing directions that were easy to follow. I would love to make a larger version of this block!

  1. Your works looks so amazing. I know that paper piecing is very precise but I still manage to goof it up sometimes. Your's looks perfect! Do you iron each little piece?
