Reworking the Braids

During November 2011 I took a class at a local quilt shop. I used Denyse Schmidt fabric from Joann to make the braids.

I really like the technique but thought they looked too "old" for my quilting style. I was inspired by this quilt that John (of Quilt Dad) created for Fat Quarterly. I chopped up the braids and added a modern twist.

The quilt is still not the most modern (or my favorite) but I definitely like it more than I would have if I would have finished it the traditional way. I gave this quilt to my dad because he has a painting on the side of his barn that looks like an American flag and I thought this quilt would fit well in the sunroom that faces that barn.
